Prof. Renato Pajarola Received The 2005 ICS Graduate Mentor Award
From Gene Tsudik's email:
Dear all:
I am very happy to announce that two faculty members: Renato Pajarola and Gloria Mark have been selected to receive the 2004/2005 Outstanding Graduate Student Mentor Award. This award comes with a plaque and lots of kudos but no prize money :-)
Here are two quotes from the respective nominations that I'd like to share with you:
".... As a mentor, Renato has always led by example. He always worked as hard if not harder than his students. As his students were pulling all nighters in the lab, he often was doing the same in his office. Like any mentor, there were times when he would be disappointed, but he focused on motivating us to do better work ..."
"... I think part of what makes Gloria an excellent mentor is her balance of both positive reinforcement and the utmost demand for sound research. Gloria's passion for research was infectious and it helped push a meager class project into a publishable research paper... "
Thanks to all grads who nominated their advisors and mentors.
